We let ourselves sleep in a little and enjoyed a relaxing
morning before heading out. We had three full days in Prague, so it was really
nice to know that we could take our time and not worry about seeing
anything/everything on any particular day.
A great place for lunch. |
We found
a great non-smoking place for lunch called Sicily Café. We wandered around the city all afternoon, not using the public transportation system at all on this day. It rained on and off,
so we ducked in random bars throughout the day to get warm. One of the best
parts about Prague is that every bar is a restaurant, every restaurant is a
bar, every café is a bar, too and they all have free wifi and clean bathrooms
(an important element when drinking beer all day). We packed around our
nexus tablet and used our beer time to look up other sights, research our
upcoming day trip to Kutna Hora and look for a nonsmoking place for dinner.
We also went to Wenceslas Square (more on Wenceslas Square
in later posts) for the first time that evening and ended up spending over an
hour there tasting the hot wine and snacking. It started raining harder as the
day went on, so we decided to go to the Museum of Communism that evening. It
was open until 9pm so it was a great place to warm up and take in some history
before we found a place for dinner.
A sausage baguette in Wenceslas Square |
The museum is really small. It is located just off of
Wenceslas Square above a McDonalds and in the same building as a casino. It
looks like it was a big, old apartment that has been turned into a museum. We
both learned a lot and would recommend it, but as with any museum when you‘ve
been walking all day anyway, we were done after about an hour.
We then headed over to a restaurant we’d read about that was
supposed to be good and have a decent nonsmoking section. The restaurant is
called Ferdinanda and was located just off the other end of Wenceslas Square. Well
the nonsmoking section was closed, or reserved, or I think they just put that
sign on there so they didn’t have to use it… it was kind of funny actually. The
smoking smell really wasn’t too bad in there anyway. The food was good. Since I have the benefit of hindsight here, I
would say we liked this meal the least, but we did enjoy it.
A rainy but beautiful fall afternoon. |
